Mother’s Day is a celebration honoring mothers and celebrating motherhood, maternal bonds and the influence of mothers in society. Just a little break in the everyday life to thank mothers to let them know how much she means to us and our home are incomplete without them!
In Australia, Mother’s Day is celebrated on the 2nd Sunday in May.
Now a bit of Mother’s day‘s history. The tradition of giving a gift to mothers on Mother’s Day in Australia was started by Mrs. Janet Heyden, a resident of Leichhardt, Sydney, in 1924. She began the tradition during a visit to a patient at the Newington State Home for Women, where she met many lonely and forgotten mothers. To cheer them up, she rounded up support from local school children and businesses to donate and bring gifts to the women. Every year thereafter, more support was raised by Mrs. Heyden from local businesses and even the local Mayor. The day has since become commercialized.
Telling a mum how special she is isn’t easy for most of us (at least not for me!). Words can describe your feelings, but gifts compliment your words. Traditionally in Australia, the Chrysanthemum is given to mothers for mother’s day as the flower is naturally in season during autumn and ends at “mum”. Mums would be glad with just a kiss and a hug …but breakfast in bed with a beautiful breakfast set, elegant Cutlery Sets or even Bedding Linen would definitely be appreciated!
At Izzz we salute all Mums for their hard work, unconditional love, and for always being there for us! We hope that with our huge range of Quilt cover sets, Bedspreads, Bed Sheets and Bamboo Pillow finding the perfect gift for mum will be a piece of cake! Ohh BTW mums would love some cake too…
So join us for our Mother’s Day Celebrations.
